Thumbs Up!

Stupid title but at least it sounds positive, yes?

So we're at Wednesday now, are we?  Oh to have it be Friday!  Wishing my life away one work day at a time.  Wish I could just stay home but alas, that just isn't going to happen unless I lose my job.  We have decided to give Jordan and Jayda piano lessons.  Start them young and they will have something that I hope both of them love.  We gave them the piano I found for $25.  I talked to the piano tuner guy and he expressed concerns about a $25 piano.  No chips on the keys, every key works, and the body is pretty good too.  The antique store said they priced it to move so they could have the floor space and it had been there a while.  It was tucked back in a corner of a furniture room.

Anyway, piano tuner coming to Lee's on Tuesday and girls start their lessons on Thursday (both of next week).  The girls are excited and that makes me so happy!!  Jessie wasn't interested in Darren learning to play piano.  But I did find out that they have a music program at the school where the girls will have their lessons for kids as young as 6 mos. old!  Oakley is now 18 mos. old (well, in a week) and I'm going to see what the program entails and if Jessie would be interested in that for Oakley.  It could be fun.

Was trying to figure out how to do a sound byte for Celeste with the harp playing...plinking.  Couldn't figure it out so guess a video is next best option.  Michael has to leave early today for work but I'll have him take a short one next time I practice (well, after today, I mean).  Hopefully he can do it without getting much of me in there.  And I have to warn you all that I have probably some of the ugliest hands on the planet.  No exaggeration there.

Still haven't worked on the painting since Monday a.m. and I know I won't until the weekend.  No plans this weekend (yay!) so with any luck or at least more fortitude on my part, it will be finished this weekend.  I'll never be a master, that is for sure.  Oy.

Finished the perspective book and sent my final project for that book in a couple of days ago.  Still had some pages to read and I have kind of a reference notebook going with drawings and short bits of notes.  I am just so darned rigid!  I would like to say that just doesn't fly with an artist wannabe.  But since I am one (an artist wannabe, that is), it must.  Anyway, next book in the course is Basic Drawing.  Would that it helps me.

I am a walking version of mediocrity.  Sigh...  Big thoughts always though.  Look where those have gotten me!!  LOL

How did it get to be Wednesday already? How great to have the kids take piano lessons. I wish someone had let me take them. By the time I tried playing I didn't have the time to practice. Isn't that always the way? lol

Enjoy the day!

There is nothing mediocre about you. I love your enthusiasm for trying new things and not giving up on the old.

Great post, Sherry, nice to hear you sounding so upbeat. Well done with the piano lessons, they will thank you in years to come.

I'd be interested in hearing a harp note or two ... no strings attached :0)

I've just been buying books on oil painting, I used the Poll on the Best Books to buy over on the'Making a Mark' blog that I know you frequent as well as me.

Be like me ... one step at a time: I've made the easel ... now all it needs is to learn how to paint!!

Hi Sherry, you do have a musical ear and are so talented. I wouldn't even dream of playing the piano or the harp. And painting on top of it all. You're learning all the time, that's the important thing I guess and soon your grandkids will be able to play for you. What a treat that will be! :)

I begged and begged for piano lessons as a kid...but never got them. Now I'm too busy being creative to teach myself to play....but someday. For now, in the music department, singing will have to do. I think it's terrific you got a piano for $25...that's unreal! Good for you......your home must be filled with the beauty and charming delights of music always......! xo

This is wonderful Sherry about your grandkids...seems like so few are learning to play the piano now days. As for being a wannabe you are not a wannabe - you are an artist. Have a wonderful week-end friend!

Oh, I am excited that the little ones will be introduced to piano! See, that piano purchase was really COOL!

I am looking forward to seeing your painting and especially the possibility of a video/soundtrack of your harp lesson(s)! You say you are mediocre...but HA HA HA, harp lessons alone...no matter how you are doing ....impress me!!

Happy do-whatever-you-want weekend! Maybe it will involve pancakes?

Piano lessons for the little ones is a great idea. My parents started the lessons for me when I was 5 and I am so thankful that they did. I can play any piano piece that I choose. It is such a gift!

My mother bought an old upright piano when we were young and our cousin's wife taught us for a while - I enjoyed it and learned quickly but I never kept up with it. Same with the guitar. I began learning because of my uncle and when he passed, I just quit - should pick it up again just because. Of course, I just learned so I could strum along and sing, not to really play!
