I cannot believe the whole weekend is gone already. I didn't step outside the house even once. Michael was sick all weekend too and doesn't sound good today either. He says he isn't going to call off work because he doesn't have too far to go today and the job isn't going to be difficult.
Wish I could say the same. Next weekend will be a working weekend for it is time to do another month's inventory. And Sunday at 3 we're supposed to go to a concert at a church in Lombard. My harp instructor will be having a solo so we're kind of excited about that. I say kind of because I really do not like to dress up and I will have to go into the office super early so as to get out in time to make it to the concert. (I am sighing heavily here.)
My harp practicing has been not so hot the past two weeks. I just am not note reading fast enough. I know what they all are...if I stop and say, "Every good boy does fine," "face," "Good boys do fine always," and "All cows eat grass." Unfortunately I don't switch between the treble and base changes quickly and anything besides low 'd' and low 'c' on the treble clef I just can't do fast at all. Did that make sense? So, practicing for the past two weeks has been getting done but sounds awful with all the starts and stops. I did make flash cards but that is as far as I've gotten on faster sight reading.
I've added more paint to my piece but confess that the photo I posted yesterday has me a bit befuddled. The one thing I like about oil paintings is their inherent depth and almost a glow. Somehow, the colors look flat to me. I suspect it is because I turped down the color to make it flow easier. Someone also made a comment about having a great background for the clouds. Hmmm...I was thinking my background WAS the clouds. LOL Ah well...I'll push on. The contrast between sky and golden wheat has come out to exactly what I had hoped but I'm not sure my foreground wheat is the right color. I have the underpainting done in a darker gold color...I am thinking it is too different from the upper 40. That said, it is just an underpainting at this point so it isn't lost. If it ends up looking too juvenile, I might not even share it. Apparently I don't have too steady a hand.
And here we go again...Just not enough hours in a day for me! Prayers and good thoughts for Michael.

I hope Michael is feeling better. It is so hard to go to work when you feel lousy. I'm sure once you get to the concert you will be glad you are there, and it will relax you. Glad you had some time to work on the painting. Have a good day.
So happy you are practicing with the harp - what a lovely instrument! And - you are working in oil - yea! Never having seen a midwestern wheat field, your photo reference took a second look. Have you tried Liquin as a medium to move your paint? It's fast drying and keeps the color bright. Stay with this one, Sherry! Will be looking for your next post!
The great thing about oil paint is how you can go over things or scrape things off--I'm sure your underpainting will do the job to set you up for the next phase. Hoping Michael feels well soon. I don't like dressing up either. Pretty sure the reason Georgia O'Keeffe went around in nothing but black was because she "couldn't be bothered". That's a lot like how I feel about it! lol! You'll have a good time once you get there!
Dear Sherry - hope both you and Michael are doing better. Seems like the week-ends never offer enough time. Hope your concert is wonderful. Have a great week.
You know what? You are perfectly within your rights to not do ANYTHING all weekend! Give yourself permission to just chill, my friend, nobody deserves that time more than you do! I can commiserate with your frustrations with the harp playing... I can barely make 6 strings sound decent, let alone.... (how many strings ARE there on your instrument?) That's amazing to me how people play the harp! Hang in there, it's almost the weekend again!
