...that I am not doing anything creative, I figured I would post something...anything!
It has been a rather brutal two weeks stress-wise for me. Both plant inventories are done, finally. I sent one in Friday morning (2 days late but manager wanted time to see if he could find anything) and the second one in right before I went home Friday night (about 15 minutes late, I might add). Got called back to work by the plant guys at about 7:30 as they were having a computer issue. I couldn't figure it out on the phone nor when I got there because it all looked right. So I just deleted and re-entered so that product could go out.
I spent 4 days with no dogs and no Michael which was good for the spirit, I think. He did something that hurt me deeply so I needed the break. I'm sure he did too. Dogs will be picked up today from the vet's office and Spooky will be minus his family jewels. I hope that settles him a bit but with the terrier I know he has in him (he's supposed to be Chihuahua but looks like a terrier of some sort), I would be surprised if he slows down at all.
Went to breakfast with the girls and the grandkids Saturday morning (IHOP anyone?) and I did indeed get those yummy red velvet pancakes. Then we all went to Target and I bought the kids all a toy and then we went to Barnes & Noble and I bought books all around. For myself, I purchased two books but this is the one I am reading first:
Wouldn't you know it is cheaper on Amazon than I just paid for it at Barnes & Noble? Anyway, tax refund came in so I was feeling even more generous than usual! LOL
I've been practicing my harp and I am having issues with the strings touching each other when I pluck them. This has me hankering for a better harp. We will see. I know the one I want and Michael is on board. We'll see how it goes though. Not sure we can get the financing but if not, oh well.
Yesterday after blog reading, I napped for a couple of hours then spent the day working on the next book in my class (correspondence) which happens to be Color Theory. Some of you might remember that this is the same class I was enrolled in before but then M lost his job and we moved into the car for a few months. The school has graciously allowed me to start anew (though it was a fight and the graciousness comes in with the VP of Customer Relations stepping up to the plate and gifting me with the course for free; I went through heck trying to enroll). Anyway, first two tests were 100% and this is the third book.
Rather than start a new piece of art (I'm gearing up mentally for oils for the next piece), I spent the day working on exercises in the book. See below:
The four green strips and the color wheel are all on one page but for some reason, my new Windows 8 compatible printer split each into its own scan. Not to mention the actual doesn't show the flaws that the scan does! Anyway, these were the exercises I spent the day doing. Might be hard to see some of the things that used water in the exercise (the flowing color and pencil on wet surface). The last square was supposed to be texture of paper exercises but my paper had no texture. It was just plan smooth drawing paper that the school sent with the supplies.
I'm more than half done with the color theory book. The next exercise involves drawing an apple with light angled at it. I don't have any apples and normally I would just skip the exercise if I don't have the supplies but then how is that helping me? It isn't. Today I'll get an apple.
Avoidance therapy. I'm avoiding the oil painting I want to do. My best excuse is that the photo is on the old computer and I wasn't up for connecting that to the internet, finding it, emailing it to myself and re-opening on the new computer. And I think I'm going to underpaint it for the simple reason of wanting to set a tone. Underpainting will be blue/gray. Think stormy skies.
Well, I'm off to see if I can see a Bible that my daughter wants on Amazon. She wants one that reads across the whole page, not split into columns. She says she has seen them but I don't think I have. I'll look though. Today? Back to work. Think good thoughts about harp financing for me.

Dear Sherry - I can relate to your work situation. My job might have been different (banking) but the stress was a real challenge - reports etc. and everything needing top priority. Your class sounds wonderful. I have never painted with oils. Someday in my next life (LOL) - have a great week.
Glad your big project at work is finished! Looks like you'll be a color theory expert soon...now I know who to contact. It sounds like you had a very busy weekend.
Aside from shoveling a bit of snow there isn't much happening here. I went out for a short while yesterday but the roads really haven't been cleared yet and it is too risky to be on them. I'll have to find an art project to work on today. Have a great day!
Enjoyed this upbeat post and catching up with your busy life. I'm thinking great thoughts about your harp financing.
HI Sherry, What other books did you get? I'm a big reader too. I hope you get the harp you want. I need a new brush, my fav.one is floppy.. love to you,Diana
That is a lot of work on the color theory, for some reason, I lack the patience to try it out.. I will look fwd to your new oil painting, excuses dont exist in real, we just make them :-)
Such a busy life--you deserve the occasional nap.
I'm thinking good thoughts about the harp, Sherry. Sounds like you just had a much needed break. Well deserved.
Color Theory is so important and something that we can study for years. Great job on the exercises. My drawing instructor has made his living painting in oils for years and he has recently be restudying color theory. He says he is learning a lot and even went back to some of his older pieces and reworked them with new knowledge.
Ooh, I wish I could take that class! That looks so helpful, the exercises that you're doing! And the Van Gogh book too! You never cease to amaze me, Sherry! You are constantly learning and experimenting and doing, doing, doing. But not in an effort to gain attention and admiration from others... your efforts are for the sheer desire to express what's inside you and to give of yourself to others. I wish I had the means to make that new harp arrive at your doorstep, all wrapped in a silver bow. You would make it sing with the most beautiful sounds, I'm sure. I hope things at work calm down... spring is just around the corner, if we can just hold on a little longer!
Great job on the color theory and Good luck on the harp thing...I I'll be watching for your apple.
Oh, these color theory charts bring back memories. They are such good exercises to do.
I think I might buy the Van Gogh book too. Let me know if it is good. The Norton Simon museum in Pasadena has Van Gogh's last self portrait on loan and I saw it over the weekend. He has always been my favorite artist and to see his work in person gives me goosebumps.
Good luck getting the harp.
You are an inspiration!
